(InfoWars) – Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) defended his controversial decision to vacation in Cancun, as millions in his state went without electricity amid one of the worst winter storms in decades.
Sen. Cruz released a statement Thursday explaining he went to the tropical Mexican vacation site to chaperone his daughters who had planned the trip with friends.
“This has been an infuriating week for Texans. The greatest state in the greatest country in the world has been without power. We have food lines, gas lines, and people sleeping at the neighbors’ houses,” Cruz stated.

“With school cancelled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon.”
On Wednesday, Cruz was criticized after images surfaced on social media showing him boarding a flight to Cancun from Houston, as a deep freeze prompted power outages impacting large swaths of the state.

The senator’s ill-timed excursion drew comparisons to Austin Mayor Steve Adler, who Cruz himself criticized late last year after the mayor told residents to “stay home” and restrict travel due to coronavirus, as he himself filmed the message to Austinites from Cabo.
Hypocrites. Complete and utter hypocrites.
And don’t forget @MayorAdler who took a private jet with eight people to Cabo and WHILE IN CABO recorded a video telling Austinites to “stay home if you can…this is not the time to relax.” pic.twitter.com/KSvkiwxgga

The two incidents aren’t exactly comparable, but anti-Trump leftists did not need another reason to hate Ted Cruz, who they already revile as a treasonous traitor after he challenged the certification of the 2020 election.
After the backlash, Cruz noted he would be flying back to Texas on Thursday.
